70 Years of the State of Israel: “From the Shoah to New Life!”
March of the Nations in Jerusalem on a Historical Date
by Jobst Bittner
The March of the Nations will take place May 13-15, 2018. It will be unique to its type of event.
The founding of the state of Israel on May 14, 1948 belongs to one of the most important events of this age. A vast history of persecution of the Jewish people, which extends almost 2,000 years, came to an end. David Ben Gurion occasioned the Israeli Declaration of Independence at the Museum of Art in Tel Aviv. It went into effect on May 15. That was the birthing point of the new state of Israel. The Bible speaks of a time in which the nations will turn to Israel again, “´Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.´ The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem,” (Micah 2:4, NIV).
The March of the Nations 2018 is conveying the message behind the March of Life movement to Israel. The March of Life began in 2007 through the repentance of descendants of Nazi perpetrators for the guilt of their fathers and forefathers. Since then, marches have taken place in 350 cities and 20 nations. The heart behind the March of Life movement remains today the humble request for forgiveness for indifference and silence towards anti-Semitism.
